Web Site Editing
For people who update the web site, this is a place to collect tips and guidelines. Feel free to edit as you learn more.
Formatting
- Refrain from using custom fonts and sizes, instead use the provided styles Heading 1, Heading 2, Paragraph, Paragraph (sm), etc
- When pasting in text from Word, use the "Remove Formatting" button (looks like an eraser) and then adjust formatting using the Style dropdown box. The "Remove Formatting" button cannot clear all formats. When copy comes from an outside computer, it brings with it "code clutter" which can interfere with Eliot web format. To avoid this, copy can be sent in "Text Edit" format. This will clear out all formats and allow copy to be reformatted for Eliot website.
- Styles affect the whole paragraph. If selecting a style affects too much text enter paragraph breaks by pressig Enter.
- Press Shift+Enter to add a line break or Enter to add a (wider) paragraph break
Pictures
- Pictures need to be either gifs or jpgs.
- Use these width as a guidance:
Picture with text on the side: 300 pixels
Picture that cover the full width of the page: 600 pixels
Resizing can be done once uploaded:
SiteMaster > Files > Images > Edit Image > Resize
- Photo Gallery Page: Use a table, including cells for captions. Make the border 0 pixels- you can see graph lines when editing, but they disappear when you publish
- To have space between picture and surrounding text, set at 10 horizontal, 5 vertical (guideline only)
Sample - Church Staff page
Publishing
-
Whenever you made changes that affect the menu on the left side (adding, deleting, hiding, unhiding) you need to republish the whole website.
