Take a trip to Spain and Brazil without leaving town, and help support live local music.
On Sunday September 29 at 3:00 pm, The Eliot Church and Bacon Free Library will team up to host internationally known guitarist/composer Peter Griggs in an outdoor concert on the lawn of the Bacon Free Library in Natick. Mr. Griggs will present “Cafe Barcelona,” a selection of Spanish and Brazilian music, as well as several of his own compositions, on this wide-ranging program. A highly skilled guitarist in flamenco, bossa nova, samba and other Latin guitar styles, he is also an expressive vocalist and will perform several classic Brazilian songs by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luis Bonfa.
Peter Griggs has presented more than 600 solo guitar concerts throughout the USA, Germany, United Kingdom, France, the Low Countries, Scandinavia and eastern Europe at art centers, festivals, museums, churches, jazz clubs and other venues. His recordings are available on Folkways Records, Music Of The World, Treecastle Music and CD Baby. He was based for more than ten years in Dusseldorf, Germany and now resides in South Harpswell, Maine.
Critics in Germany and the United Kingdom have hailed Griggs as “a master of expressive sounds” known for his “sizzling guitar playing” and “sophisticated and highly enjoyable” programs. Germany’s Bergische Morning Post put it this way: “an almost unbelievable talent — Peter Griggs performs magic!”
The Bacon Free Library is located at 58 Eliot Street in Natick. Attendees are advised to bring a blanket or folding chairs, and are welcome to bring food to enjoy (carry in/carry out). In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held across the street at The Eliot Church (in that case, please do not bring food).
Admission is by free-will donation ($10 suggested).
